The future of the European Agriculture policy will be at the heart of the debates during the informal Council of European Agriculture Ministers, which take place in Annecy from the 22nd to the 23rd of September.
That’s the reason why thousand of people will gather in Annecy the 20nd and the 21st of September, to let our governments know that the agriculture policy we want must:
- Give back to agriculture its primary vocation: food supply
- Promote sustainable family farming, which create jobs
- Re-localise productions and adapt them to the territories
- Preserve natural resources and ecological balance
- Promote and defend the right to food sovereignty in Northern and Southern countries.
The global food price crisis brutally put forward by the riots is extremely serious. It is the result of several causes. Climates problems have affected the 2006 and 2007 harvests in France and throughout the world. Unfair competition between food crops and agro-fuel crops has greatly agravated the situation. Finally, this situation is largely a consequence of the deregulation of markets imposed by our governments through the policies of the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Union.
We ask from now another European agriculture policy, which is legitimate and fair, which will serve as a considerable lever to fight hunger, regulate the markets and stop the growing precariousness and disappearance of farmers.
The agriculture policy we want is the only one answering the social, environmental and food challenges the humaty is currently facing!
By bringing producers and consumers closer, and through our modes of consumption, we can support this policy!
